These will be the highest-level negotiations between the US and Iran since the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and the first official direct negotiations since 2015, when the parties reached an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. The negotiations will begin with a dialogue through intermediaries, followed by direct consultations, CNN reports, citing sources. According to The Washington Post, the US will ask Iran to release detained Americans. On April 8, the parties agreed on a two-week ceasefire.
