Nearly 700 Murom residents contract intestinal infection due to dirty water

The number of people infected with acute intestinal infection in Murom has increased from 375 to 679, the government of the Vladimir region reported. 67 patients, including 26 children, have been hospitalized. They are in moderate condition. The mass infection began in early April. The Investigative Committee believes that the cause was water contamination in the water supply. The department has opened a criminal case for providing services that do not meet safety requirements. Today, the head of Murom removed the director of Vodoprovod i Kanalizatsiya Municipal Unitary Enterprise, Yuri Dudarev, from his post. Earlier, Murom began vaccinating against hepatitis A, attributing it to an outbreak of intestinal infection. Disinfection of water supply networks is ongoing in the city. Specialists have also examined about 230 samples of tap water. Local residents are advised to boil water before use. Mash wrote that the cause of water contamination could be an accident at the city collector due to worn-out equipment. According to the channel, a rusty pipe installed 60 years ago cracked, after which sewage entered the drinking water source. However, the Investigative Committee stated that this version is not yet confirmed, as the sick live in different parts of the city. "Agentstvo" notes that this is the largest outbreak of intestinal infection in Russia due to dirty water in terms of the number of victims.
